Ferro Bet Rustfjerner report #91-1117A
Introduction: Rust Remover 125 produced by AS Ferro Bet was tested by Det Norske Veritas' laboratory at Hoevik in December of 1991
Test plates and surface preparation: Two test plates measuring 150x72x2 mm were manufactured by St. 37 according to the standards of ASTM D4060. Test plates were cleaned and degreased with klorotene (?). Both test plates were then exposed to a corrosive atmosphere such that the entire surface was heavily corroded. The test plates were air dried and photographed.
Rust remover test: One of the test plates were brushed with a steel brush to remove surface rust. Subsequently the test plate was submerged in Rust Remover 125. It took Rust Remover 125 only 40 minutes to eliminate any trace of rust. The test plate had turned a grey/white colour. The test plate was then cleaned, dried and photographed.
Ferro Bet Sealer report:
Application: Sealer was painted directly on the surface of a test plate. The edge of the test plate was sealed with grease in order to prevent moisture entering the test surface. A second and third application was made before the prior layer had completely dried. The Ferro Bet Sealer was applied with a brush. The test plate was dried and stored at room temperature for 48 hours. After drying the thickness of the Ferro Bet Sealer was measured to be in the range of 80-100 um(?). The test plate was exposed to a salty mist according to test criteria laid out in ASTM B 117-85.
Test result: After 21 days in a corrosive chamber the test plate was removed and examined. In the bottom right corner moisture had penetrated beneath the Ferro Bet Sealer because of inadequate edge protection. Apart from this Ferro Bet Sealer performed well.
